When it comes to kitchen witchery, especially for my hoodoo conjurers out there, resourcefulness is the way to enhance your power! So, let’s get up on our good foot together and make our way!
Here’s a comprehensive list of things you can use that you already have in your home!
The Spice Spell Rack
Spices, Herbs, Etc

- Salt: A classic used since the start of hoodoo practices. Used for protection, purification, and is seen as an ultimate spiritual cleanser. Add to spells to enhance protection and/or purity.
- Black Pepper: Great at banishing or repelling negative energy, also useful in warding spells
- Cloves: Underrated goldmine in the listen–used for fast and positive luck, protection, money, gambling, and the hindering of gossip. Some say chewing it in small amounts stops gossip.
- Thyme: Useful in healing, cleansing, and sleep spells (especially handling wards or nightmares)
- Nutmeg: Also useful in gambling magick and attracting good luck and fortune.
- Cinnamon: Commonly known for attraction abilities, prosperity, and abundance manifestation, and addition of successful energies and outcomes
- Red/Cayenne Pepper: Protection and banishment. Used in ‘hot foot’ spells and crossings/hexes as well. Can speed up workings or spice up relationships (fidelity/passion/stamina)
- Paprika: Great for enhancing other spells (if sweet). (If smoked) It can also be used for cleansing, removals, or earth element connection
- Oregano: A bit of a classic in kitchen witchery, it’s great for healing, protection, and overall for letting go of negativity and replacing it with love and peace
- Garlic Powder: Same properties as garlic, protection, warding, cleansing, health, stopping negative forces/gossip, and energizing and protecting other spells
- Bay Leaves: The classic manifestation herb! Great for making wishes, casting intentions, Victory, success, psychic works, money, and prosperity/success
- Basil: Money, prosperity, Love, Harmony, and overall good luck. Usually a purification/cleaning aspect as well
Earths’ Harvests
Produce + Fresh Foods

- Oranges: Spells associated with prosperity, joy, and abundance. Also often a staple in Florida water and Sun magick
- Lemons: Common protective agent, souring energies/situations, wards, sometimes sweetening of already negative or bitter situations
- Celery: Heavy water base is good for psychic connections/abilities, clarity, focus, and concentration.
- Ginger: Added to spell work for potency, speed, and to enhance passion in certain spells
- Eggs: Great tool for cleansing and protection (whole egg AND just shells). Works for spells involving conception, absorption of energy, or divine intervention.
- Potatoes: Absorption of negative energies/entities, draws out low vibrations, forces out low vibe entities
- Garlic: Commonly known for its protection and warding properties. Also good at breaking jinxes, washes and baths in cleansing, purification, and increasing strength and health
The Cabinet Cauldron
Pantry/Cabinet Items

- Sugar/Honey: Adds attraction and sweetness in spells, also good for drawing in energy to improve situations. Good for money, business, and offerings.
- Flour: Protection (protective circles/sigils), purification and foundational magick, grounding spells
- Cornmeal: Classic to align with ancestors and practice protective spell work. Also beneficial when warding, giving offerings, grounding, or trapping negatives energies/entities
- Oats: Call in, grow, and maintain wealth, which manifests various types of stability. Good for prosperity, wards/energetic barriers, healing, self-soothing, and connectedness
- Vinegar: To ‘sour’, confuse, or defend against negative energies and entities. Super strong and powerful, can also be used for cleaning, purification, repulsion, protection, banishing, and uncrossing/unblocking
- Dry/Uncooked Pasta: Use this when you want to tap into a long-lasting or heavily enduring energy. Great for spells regarding binding, connection, long-term goals, or the alignment, tangling, or unraveling of an energetic situation
- Coffee Grounds/Beans: Grounding, boost of energy in spell work, faster working spells, removing blocks, clearing nightmares or negatively charged spaces, clarity, and used for offerings as well
- Food Dye: Color magick, aligning colors with intentions, substitutions for other ingredients/colors, and boosting or enhancing intentions
Enchanted Gadgets
Kitchen tools, gadgets and utensils

- Jars: Spell containers, containing situations, or spells that conceal information, good for personal spells or longer lasting spells
- Knives(Athame): Protective properties, cutting ties, or cutting cords.
- Spoons: Perfect for mixing multiple/separate energies, also used maliciously to confuse energies. Also, create directional intentions or mix spiritual baths.
- Forks: Used to reject or push away certain energies/negative forces, also used to penetrate/infiltrate energies
- Rolling Pins: Of course, used to smooth out tensions! In addition to manifesting smooth routes, travel, magic, and more.
- Cutting Boards: Can be used to create separations or divisions, can be used to cleanse or set the tone for a workspace, also for ingredient preparation
- Matches/Lighters: Fire Magick! Setting intentions as you light a flame is a good basic spiritual practice to use. Can also be used for magick reversals, communication with source/spirits, or destruction
- Measuring Cups: Adding certain amounts of things to your spells (i.e. 2 cups of spiritual wealth, one cup of abundance)–remember a key part of kitchen witchery is cooking up what you want things to be based on intention
- Mixing bowls: Of course, used to mix and intertwine multiple energies, can also be used as your ‘cauldron’. Beneficial in confusion spells and cleansing, or just having a spell work-only bowl to hold ingredients
- Cups(chalice): They’re representative of Water and used to offer water and other liquids to spirits. You can also use them for scrying, cleansing, or serving
The Witches Junk Drawer
The Miscellaneous

- Paper Towels: Spells involving absorption, burning, or dissolving (especially issues that need to be quickly released).
- Aluminum Foil: Beneficial for protection spells. Also use in reflective or mirror spells, or spells that require you to send intention and energy out directly.
- Ice: Workings that call for a stopping, hindrance, slowing, or freezing of energy. Beneficial in stopping specific people or behaviors.
- Water: Water is needed for more than just kitchen witchery. It’s needed for life. This holy grail can be used for cleansing, alignment, intention setting, spiritual washes, healing, communication with spirit, offerings, and, depending on what water it is, carries additional properties (rain water, storm water, river water, etc)
- Alcohol: One that most ancestors or spirits appreciate as an offering often (whether ritual or offering). It’s also good for cleansing, protection, spiritual washes, and spells that require extended burning time
- Sponges: Absorption spells (protection or otherwise) as well as cleansing. Clean ones help wash away negative energies, release/wringing out negativity, drawing in or absorbing positive energies, and even healing when used similar to egg cleansing
- Kitchen Sink: Space for spiritual cleaning and washing–they say a clean home = clean money!
- Nails/Screws: Bonus points if they’re rusty! Wonderful for permanent spells, protection spells, and ‘staking down’ hexes
- Coins/Keys: Whether they’re saved or randomly found, keeping them around to open more doors for you is beneficial
- Food Scraps: Can be used as offerings to spirits (especially land spirits), or used in chaos magick if the food is old, spoiled, or rotten
